TJ Oshie is a Stanley Cup Champion member of the Washington Capitals, an NHL All-Star, and a member of the 2014 USA Olympic Hockey team. Born in Everett, Washington, Oshie trained and played in Warroad, MN and attended the University of North Dakota. He was selected by the Saint Louis Blues in the 2005 NHL draft and was traded to the Washington Capitals in 2015. TJ has raised awareness for dementia in honor of his father Tim who was diagnosed in 2012 with early onset Alzheimer’s at just 48 years old, and who passed away from the disease in May 2021. “Coach Oshie,” as he was lovingly known, was a frequent presence at TJ’s hockey games and was in attendance in Las Vegas when the Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018. Fans remember TJ’s words immediately after the game: “My dad, he doesn’t remember a lot of stuff these days, but this one will stick with him forever, you can guarantee that.” In sharing his family’s journey, he has helped reduce the stigma often associated with Alzheimer’s disease. TJ lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Lauren and their four children.
